I began the Composition II course at the start of my second semester of senior year, having previously completed Composition I during the second semester of my junior year. While I have never considered myself a strong essay writer, I have always put in my best effort to learn and improve. Throughout this course, I have written both an argumentative essay and a rhetorical analysis essay. These assignments focused on the dangers of distracted driving, particularly the risks associated with using a phone while behind the wheel. Exploring these topics helped me understand not only the subject matter, but also how to structure and support my ideas more effectively in writing.

The essay that taught me the most was the argumentative essay. In this assignment, I gathered and used evidence to support the idea that distracted driving is extremely dangerous. I argued that texting while driving is a leading cause of distraction because it takes your eyes and mind off the road, increasing the likelihood of accidents. By researching statistics and expert opinions, I learned how to build a convincing argument and present my points more clearly.

One of my main struggles was trying to figure out certain information to make the essay meaningful, true, and creative. That essay and every essay after that have taught me a lot about writing. Another struggle I have is trying to figure out how MLA and APA format works, at the beginning of the semester I have had a lot of trouble trying to figure out how it works and the thing was I was hitting the wrong button for APA, this problem was causing a lot of mistakes to happen so I fixed that immediately then eventually i started to get the right was down. One of the things I think was the most helpful learning-wise was Professor Hammett’s comments and corrections on the essay feedback for me to be able to lift my grade up for the essay, because it wasn't that I was failing, because I still had an A.

This course has to be one of my favorite courses so far; it had to be the one class that had the most patience for its students. Ms. Hammet was so patient and kind and took the time for every student that she cared for, which made me have more faith for humans to be as patient and kind as her. I have not had many teachers like her, so she just brings a lot of positivity to her class and it shows everyday, i believe that its really worth taking this class. I never thought I would have someone that would listen to a problem or one who was really excited to have a conversation with the other students. The skills that I have overcome and have made me learn those certain skills that I would use moving forward with in life, but not only that, it will also be in college.
